New series…and a milestone!

January 30, 2009

plugged-in01feb-2009mainThis weekend we start a new series, “Plugged In.” This is the first time here at Waterfront where we look at what it means to “be” the church. We will invite everyone who calls Waterfront their church home to do 2 things: 1. Join a small group, and 2. join a serving team. I can’t wait to see what happens as people begin to experience true community!

What a Week!

January 26, 2009

pro-margin25jan-2009main1How much can happen in 7 days? Lots! Last Sunday we had our second Q and A time, AKA “Pizza With The Pastor” and it was another great turnout! It so so wonderful to be a part of a church where so many are wanting to know more, and be a part of what we are doing. The service was wonderful as well, and it was a great day. Pizza Time – Part 2!

January 16, 2009

q-and-a-todayThis Sunday we are having our second Q and A after service. We had over 70 people attend our first one, so who knows this time! Being a new church, we have lots of new folks wanting to know more about who we are and what we are about. And of course, pizza is a great draw!

January 12, 2009

baptism-slideWe held our first Baptism class Sunday after service. We had 3 people looking to find out more about baptism. David did a great job explaining the biblical principles behind baptism, and answered the questions people had. It looks like all 3 are ready to take the plunge! How exciting!

And, almost nobody keeps them. So, why the disconnect? I believe it is that the reason we want to change certain things about ourselves is that we don’t like, or aren’t good, at them. But we have been unable to do anything about it. So, when we proclaim “I’m quitting smoking” or “I’m going on a diet” we know we want to change that behavior, but if we knew how we already would have done it, right? So, we hit the wall after a week or two and wind up “off the wagon” again. Read the rest of this entry »

Happy New Year!

January 5, 2009

4fa974f7ac9fWell, I’m back! Back to the blogging world, and back to the Chicagoland area after a refreshing and enjoyable retreat to southern New Mexico for the week between Christmas and New Years. This has become somewhat of a tradition for our family, and I believe this is the third or fourth year in a row we have done this. My wife grew up there, and we have family we visit and stay with. This picture came from my phone, so it is kind of small but as you can see, the sky and sun still exist in other parts of the world.
